Indian Premier League (IPL) founder Lalit Modi on Tuesday lambasted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after a report about BCCI planning to launch a T10 League next year surfaced. Modi, who was the first chairman and League Commissioner of IPL, in a post on X (previously Twitter) mentioned an agreement signed in 2008 and claimed that the BCCI will not be able to float a league in direct competition with IPL.

Moneycontrol on Friday had reported that the BCCI was planning to launch a T10 format cricket league which is likely to begin between October and September next year. The report further said that BCCI secretary Jay Shay was working on a blueprint for the proposed league.
Founder of IPL Lalit Modi took to X on Tuesday to slam the plan. Modi claimed ‘only fools’ can come up with such an idea.
“This is probably the most ridiculous scheme of all schemes. Sheer madness. Only fools could come up with such an idea when they have a golden goose in @IPL. Anyway they can’t no direct competition to #ipl is allowed under the agreement signed in 2008.” Lalit Modi posted on social media along with the link of the report.
However, since neither BCCI nor any official has accepted or denied the report, it can’t be said with conviction that BCCI is indeed planning such a tournament. After Lalit Modi’s vicious post, it remains to be seen if Jay Shah and co. respond to the matter.
