Once bitten, twice shy? Shreyas Iyer’s practices ‘bouncers’ ahead of IND vs SL clash

Shreyas Iyer toils hard in nets, aims to perfectly hit bouncers before IND vs SL World Cup clash

It is no surprise that the short ball is the Achilles heel for Shreyas Iyer. The star Indian batter has been dismissed multiple times while trying to face the short balls and bouncers. Therefore in a bid to perfect his playing style Rahul Dravid took special bouncer training for Shreyas Iyer ahead of the crucial IND vs SL World Cup clash.

The Indian Cricket Team had an optional training and only a handful of players participated in the session. Shreyas Iyer who has fumbled a lot in the World Cup was spotted practicing bouncers and short balls. With Rahul Dravid keeping a close watch, Iyer faced a lot of takedowns and dispatched them with ease.

Time and often Iyer has struggled against short balls and has hardly managed a big score. His last crucial knock came against Australia where he slammed a ton ahead of the World Cup. However, things have been different in the big tournament, where Iyer have thrown his wickets while trying to play the hook or the pull shot.

Things were a bit difficult in the India Cricket Team practice, Iyer looked rather comfortable with the bat. He went on to hammer some big shots in the nets which potentially looked like big sixes.

Only 7 players turned up for Team India’s optional training session. KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Surykumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja were the players who trained at nets.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma along with Virat Kohli and pacers skipped the training session on Tuesday and opted to stay back in the hotel in hot and humid Mumbai weather.

India next take on Sri Lanka in Mumbai and will look to replicate the Asia Cup 2023 finals. With a win officially confirming the semi-final berth, the Men in Blue under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma will be raring to go at the Lankans.
