On this day in 2007 – Yuvraj Singh 6 sixes: On this day in 2007, Yuvraj Singh etched his name in the record books as he took Stuart Broad to the cleaners, hitting him six gigantic sixes in an over. Playing against England in the group stages of the inaugural T20 World Cup, Singh unleashed his fury on Broad after a verbal battle with Andrew Flintoff, to score the fastest T20I fifty. The all-rounder’s heroics took India past the 200-run mark, and the Men in Blue eventually clinched an 18-run win.

Openers Gautam Gambhir and Virendra Sehwag had given India the perfect start as they motored along to 171/3 at the end of the 18th over in their first innings. Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni were at the crease in a bid to provide a final flourish when drama followed by history unfolded. The Indian batsmen were involved in a heated altercation with Andrew Flintoff, which had Yuvraj Singh pumped to the core, and he brandished his skills on a hapless Stuart Broad. 

On this day in 2007 – Yuvraj Singh 6 sixes: Yuvraj Singh hit the first ball of the 19th over, over deep mid-wicket. The next over backward square leg, the third one over wide long-off, then a swat over the deep point to a full toss, the fifth one a hoick over square leg and finally a massive hit over wide long-on. Broad tried everything in his capacity to derail the onslaught, but Yuvraj Singh was at his vintage best and ensured that India had a great finish. Yuvraj Singh finished with 58 off just 16 deliveries, with his 12-ball half-century still being the fastest fifty scored in T20 internationals.

On this day in 2007 – Yuvraj Singh 6 sixes: Yuvraj Singh was duly awarded the man of the match, and was one of India’s star players throughout the tournament. The win meant that India made it to the knockouts where Yuvraj again unleashed his power, scoring a magnificent 70 off just 30 balls to help India defeat Australia in the semi-final. India sealed the title against Pakistan in the final, and it remains the Men in Blue’s only triumph in the T20 World Cup.
