With IPL 2024 getting over with a bang, it is time to take the excitement and thrill of T20 cricket a notch higher with the T20 World Cup. 10 top nations of the cricketing world will battle it out for the much-coveted champion’s trophy. The tournament kickstarts on June 2nd with the final scheduled on June 29th. While some nations have started sending their teams to the USA and West Indies for the tournament, some are beginning their preparations with warm-up matches.
Warm-up matches kick-start T20 WC fever
In the first warm-up match ahead of the tournament, Canada achieved a convincing victory over Nepal at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas. The second warm-up match saw Oman beat Papua New Guinea. Uganda are taking on Namibia in another warm up match on Tuesday. There will be 15 warm-up matches played in total.
Not all teams to keen to play warm-up games
While the warm-up matches provide a fantastic chance for the teams to check their team combinations and get their starting XIs sorted, not all teams are keen to participate in them.
India will be playing a single warm-up match ahead of the tournament, against Bangladesh on June 1st. 2021 champions Australia play two warm-up games while defending champions England have no warm-up games. The Jos Buttler led side will directly play in the tournament after their 4-match series against Pakistan.
