In a significant development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the reappointment of Babar Azam as the captain of the national team for white-ball formats (ODIs and T20Is). This decision comes after a unanimous recommendation from the PCB’s selection committee.
“Following unanimous recommendation from the PCB’s selection committee, Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi has appointed Babar Azam as white-ball (ODI and T20I) captain of the Pakistan men’s cricket team,” PCB in an official statement stated.
Babar Azam Return to Leadership
Babar Azam previously held the captaincy across all formats from 2020 until October 2023. However, following a string of disappointing results in the Asia Cup and the World Cup, he was relieved of his white-ball captaincy duties. The Test captaincy remains with Shan Masood.
The recently-appointed captain for T20Is, Shaheen Shah Afridi has been sacked by PCB.
