Official: Sanju Samson to captain Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025

Sanju Samson will lead Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, with the team retaining six players, including Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shimron Hetmyer, ahead of the auction.

Sanju Samson is all set to lead Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, as announced by the team’s social media handle on Thursday after player retentions. The Royals have retained six players, including their captain Samson, heading into the IPL auction, scheduled for later this year.

Along with Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, and Sandeep Sharma have been retained. Rajasthan Royals enter the auction with a purse of ₹41 crore.

Having retained six players, the Royals will now have two Right to Match (RTM) options for the upcoming mega auction.

Rajasthan Royals Players Retained

  • Sanju Samson (Rs. 18 crore)
  • Yashasvi Jaiswal (Rs. 18 crore)
  • Riyan Parag (Rs. 14 crore)
  • Yashasvi Jaiswal (Rs. 18 crore)
  • Shimron Hetmyer (Rs. 11 crore)
  • Sandeep Sharma (Rs. 4 crore)

Rajasthan Royals snub Chahal and Jos

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have opted not to retain their star players, Jos Buttler and leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. This decision has caught fans and critics off guard, especially since Chahal was the leading wicket-taker for the franchise in 2024, while Buttler scored 359 runs despite battling injuries throughout the season. However, the franchise may still consider bidding for either or both players using their Right-To-Match (RTM) cards.
