Star Indian opener Shubman Gill, who was admitted to a Chennai hospital yesterday due to his deteriorating condition, has now been discharged. A few days ago, it was reported that Gill had dengue fever and wouldn’t play in India’s opener against Australia. Despite that, the opener travelled with Team India to Chennai, where his condition was deteriorating even further, and he was hospitalised on Monday morning at the Kauvery Hospital.
Now that Gill has been given a fit bill of health from the hospital, his health will be monitored by Dr. Rizwan Khan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) doctor who has been travelling with the squad.
According to Cricbuzz, Gill’s platelet count has been low for some time, and therefore the batter did not travel to Delhi, where India will face Afghanistan on October 11.
After reports of him missing India’s second World Cup match came, BCCI released an official statement on Gill’s unavailability for the Afghanistan match.

Will Shubman Gill be fit enough to play?
Now that Gill has been left to his own devices, the question arises: will he be fit for the IND vs PAK game on October 14?
Gill has an exceptional record at the Narendra Modi Stadium. One of Gill’s two Test Hundreds has come at the stadium, and he averages over fifty in Gujarat. In T20 cricket, the batter averages 87.25 and has three tons and three fifties in 2023.
The batter has not yet played an ODI in Gujarat, but given his form at the stadium, India will miss their in-form opener on October 14 if Gill is not deemed fit to play by then.
