Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been playing cricket in an era where there’s a World Cup happening every year or two. However, for Rohit, the ODI World Cup is the ‘actual’ World Cup for him. Rohit, in chat with British musician Ed Sheeran and anchor Gaurav Gupta, talked about what the ODI World Cup means for him, how tough it was to digest the ODI World Cup 2023 final loss, and how it felt to have that one single off day in the final.
Rohit is a fun-loving person and that shone brighter when he met famous musician Ed Sheeran. However, among all the fun, when the conversation turned to the ODI World Cup 2023, one couldn’t help but notice a tinge of disappointment on Rohit’s voice.
Matter of one bad day
Rohit was on blazing form in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He played selfless cricket, gave India a blazing start in almost all the matches, but it wasn’t enough as Australia proved too hot to handle for Team India in the final.

Certain things went against us in the final: Rohit
Talking about World Cups, Rohit said, “50-over World Cup for me is the actual WC. We have grown up watching it. Moreover, it was happening in India in front of our fans. We played so well untill that final. When we won the semifinal, I thought we are just a step away, we were doing everything right. Not a single thing that could make us lose came to my mind. We ticked all the boxes, played good cricket. Confidence was there.
“I guess we were supposed to have that one bad day and that turned out to be the final. I don’t think we played bad cricket in final, certain things didn’t go in our way. But they were slightly better than us,” he added.
