NZ vs SL Highlights: SUPERHERO Kane Williamson defies rain, leads NewZealand to 2-wicket win over SriLanka, Watch 1st Test Highlights

Some fierce strokeplay from Matt Henry and Daryl Mitchell saw the hosts taking an unexpected lead on Day 3 before getting all out. At 151/5, New Zealand were in trouble, but a solid sixth-wicket partnership between Mitchell and Michael Bracewell gave them some traction. The former persisted, had strong intent today, and scored an incredible century under pressure. He was the driving force behind New Zealand’s comeback. Southee, Henry, and Wagner cameos put the Lankans on the defensive.

Tom Blundell, Tom Latham, Henry Nicholls, Kane Williamson, and Devon Conway returned to the pavilion on Day 2. Latham (67) and Conway (30) provided a great start to hosts as NZ were 60/0 in the post-lunch session on Day 2. But then Lankan bowlers fought back and took 5 scalps to finish strongly in Christchurch. In 1st session, Kiwis bowled out Sri Lanka for 355 runs.

Underdogs SriLanka have made a statement on the opening day of 1st Test. With Kusal Mendis (87) and Dimith Karunartane (50) playing terrific knocks, SriLanka ended the day at 305/6. The duo stitched a 137-run partnership on a green Christchurch track to deny any advantage to the home side at the Hagley Oval.

Kiwis struck early through captain Tim Southee to remove Oshada Fernando. But then it was all skipper Karunartane and Mendis show. Mendis was a standout performer with the quickest 50 by visiting batter in NZ

The match has a lot on the line. Australia have already secured a spot in the 2021–2023 World Test Championship final at The Oval, but Sri Lanka still have a chance to advance at the expense of India. Dimith Karunartane & Co must win this series 2-0 and hope Australia does not lose to India in Ahmedabad.
