When we talk about the Fab 4 in Test cricket, one name that isn’t discussed much, for consistency is Kane Williamson. The former New Zealand skipper has been beyond exceptional in the truck load of runs he has scored in the format. While the likes of Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, and Babar Azam — all part of the club, have faced Test form slump, but Williamson perhaps hasn’t.
On Sunday, in the first New Zealand vs South Africa Test at the Bay Oval, Williamson not only brought his team out of trouble, but also slammed his 30th ton. Playing in his 97th match, the Kiwi batsman is continuing his purple patch with the bat, having scored a century in the first Test vs Bangladesh as well, in November.
Williamson Surpasses Virat Kohli
In the process of scoring yet another century, Williamson surpassed India’s Virat Kohli, who has 29 tons in 113 matches. Another important fact to note is, the Kiwi has a brilliant average of 55 in Tests, while Kohli averages close to 50.
As far as the NZ vs SA match is concerned, Rachin Ravindra, who was in exceptional form during the World Cup, also scored his maiden Test ton. The duo bailed NZ out of trouble, when they were struggling at 39/2 at one stage.
