NZ vs BAN Live: NZ vs BAN 1st Test: The tourists Bangladesh have played nine Tests in New Zealand and haven’t won any of them. And it’s not just the Test cricket, the tourists are yet to beat New Zealand in any format despite locking horns in 32 international games across all formats. Can they script history this time? The first of the two Tests starts tomorrow (January 01) at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. While the hosts will be without their regular skipper Kane Williamson, the tourists too miss out on the services of their two stalwarts – Shakib Al Hasan & Tamim Iqbal.

Tom Latham will lead the hosts in absence of Kane Williamson who is ruled out due to rehab of the elbow injury which kept him out of the Mumbai Test against India. However, they have received a satisfactory boost with the return of Trent Boult and Devon Conway who were absent from the two-match series against India.

The tourists, on the other hand, are without Tamim Iqbal & star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan who played a pivotal role in the 2017 Wellington Test – the only game in which the Bangla Tigers managed to give a tough fight to the hosts. Shakib Al Hasan slammed a double century in the first innings while Tamim Iqbal scored a fifty to put the visitors in command – though they lost the game eventually.

Barring that, Bangladesh have been pretty much an underachiever in Kiwi conditions. They failed to win a single game in their last tour in 2021 in which they played three ODIs and three T20Is while their last Test series in New Zealand dates back to 2019 in which they lost 2-0 with the final game being abandoned due to the Christchurch shooting.

The hosts will once again start favorites with the conditions majorly in favor. The pace attack comprising Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, and Trent Boult will be the biggest threat for the touring side and the skipper Mominul Haque along with veteran Mushfiqur Rahim will be the key with the bat.
