series, ‘It was like life in jail’

New Zealand were dealt a big blow with Kane Williamson being ruled out of the series due to a persistent elbow injury. Tom Latham will lead the side in his absence with the team set to welcome back Trent Boult into the scheme of things. The conditions at home will favour the pacers and thus Ajaz Patel was left out, despite becoming the only third player to pick up all 10 wickets in an innings. Having lost the series 1-0 to India, the defending champions have some catching up to do in the current WTC final and will be hoping to take maximum points out of the NZ vs BAN 1st Test.

Bangladesh themselves are in a spot, with COVID-19 wreaking havoc and denting their preparations for the tour. With senior pros Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan out, the onus will be on skipper Mominul Haque to rally his troops as the Asian side looks to mount a challenge in New Zealand. The series marks the beginning of their World Test Championship cycle.
