The Kiwis will play three T20Is against the Men in Blue followed by 2 Test matches later in the month. Kane Williamson was the leading run-scorer for the side in the recently concluded T20 World Cup and his unavailability leaves a huge void in the batting department. Williamson unavailable, Southee to lead the side: Tim Southee will be the stand-in captain for New Zealand in the first T20Is as regular skipper Kane Williamson will miss the T20I series to focus on the 2-match Test series starting on November 25 in Kanpur.

After being named in the T20I series, Kyle Jamieson is also set to miss the T20I series against India to focus on the Test series.

New Zealand Playing XI vs India – Barring Kane Williamson, the Kiwis are expected to feature the same as they did in the T20 World Cup Final against England.

  • Martin Guptill and Daryl Mitchell are expected to open the innings
  • The left-handed batting all-rounder Mark Chapman is likely to come at the place of skipper Kane Williamson. Chapman averages 22.29 in the T20Is but didn’t get a single game in the recently concluded T20 World Cup
  • Glenn Phillips and Tim Seifert are likely to feature at 4th and 5th spot respectively with all-rounder James Neesham coming at number 06.
  • Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner are expected to form the spin attack
  • Trent Boult, Adam Milne will form the pace attack along with skipper Tim Southee
