Not Rs 739 crore loss, PCB claims of earning Rs 92 crore profit from hosting ICC Champions Trophy

The Champions Trophy 2025 was the first ICC event Pakistan hosted in 29 years, and from a monetary standpoint, it was a success.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has claimed that they have registered Rs 92 crore profit (PKR 300 crore) from hosting the ICC Champions Trophy. The National Assembly of Pakistan had sought a response from the PCB regarding the budget and revenue generated from the tournament.

PCB registers massive profit

In a detailed response, PCB claimed that they had allocated a Rs 552 crore (PKR 1800 crore) budget for their first ICC tournament in 29 years. It was initially reported that PCB had suffered a whopping Rs 739 crore loss. The board had refuted these claims and now claimed that they had overshot their own expectations.

PCB had initially expected to earn around Rs 61 crore profit (PKR 200 crore), but they have done much better. The board further added that these aren’t the final figures. Although they were the hosts, the ICC is the organiser of the tournament and will present them with the final figures.

“The Champions Trophy was entirely managed by the ICC, and there has been no overspending or mismanagement. The final figures will be confirmed once the ICC completes its financial audit,” PCB wrote. “So far, there have been no budget overruns,” the statement added.

Pakistan wins despite the odds

It must be added that Pakistan hosted just 10 of the 15 matches. The remaining games were played in Dubai. These away fixtures were the actual money makers, as India featured in them all. Not to forget that the first semifinal and final of the ICC Champions Trophy weren’t played in Pakistan. The only positive was that all of the matches involving Team India were sold out, and the ticket revenue was shared between PCB and the Emirates Cricket Board.

Yet, PCB has registered profits. This number would have been even bigger had India played in Pakistan.
