Bangladesh cricket team have been dealt with a fresh blow, with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto wanting to resign from the role across all formats. The team is already dealing with a tough transition period, with veterans like Shakib al Hasan, Mahmadullah, Mashrafe Mortaza and Tamim Iqbal having announced their retirement. Shanto reportedly wanted to step down as T20I skipper after the World Cup but later decided to give up captaincy for all three formats.
Shanto wants to quit as Bangladesh skipper
As per Cricbuzz, a top Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official confirmed that Shanto “was not ready to lead the side after the series against South Africa”. Shanto is awaiting the response from the board on his decision. Efforts made by another top BCB director to convince Shanto to take back his decision hasn’t been fruitful so far.
“Yes, he informed us that he is not ready to lead the side after the South Africa series,” a top BCB official said.

The report further stated that the board can potentially look at Mehidy Hasan Miraz to lead in Tests and Towhrid Hridoy to lead in the white-ball formats. The BCB will have to make a quick and smart decision, given that the Champions Trophy is just a few months away.
