Not Pat Cummins, Mitchell Marsh set to be named Australia skipper for T20 World Cup 2024

T20 World Cup: Mitchell Marsh has played 54 T20Is so far, scoring 1432 runs, and picking up 17 wickets.

Aussie all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is all set to lead the team in the T20 World Cup that is scheduled to take place in the West Indies and the USA. Coach Andrew McDonald hinted that Marsh will take over the role from SRH and Australia Test skipper Pat Cummins, for the event.

Marsh, has in fact led Australia well in the shortest format of the game, leading them to a 3-0 series win over South Africa last year. He had emerged the Player of the Series as well. Apart from that, Australia beat West Indies 2-1, and then beat New Zealand 3-0 recently.

“I think all roads will lead to Mitch (Mitchell Marsh), so just got to get that ticked off in certain areas. We’re happy and comfortable with the way he’s been able to operate with that T20 team. We think he’s the leader for the World Cup, and I think that will just be a matter of due course,” McDonald was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

No Pat Cummins as Skipper

It was only a few days back that Cummins replaced Aiden Markram as SRH captain. He was bagged for a whopping INR 20.5 cr during the IPL Auctions in December 2023. Despite that, he will, most likely make it to the Australian squad for the T20 World Cup, in June.
