India and Australia will face each other in the Cricket World Cup 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19. While fans are expecting Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to be the key player against Aussies, one player who could make a decisive difference is India’s opener Shubman Gill.

The 24-year-old holds an exceptional record at the Narendra Modi Stadium. In Tests and T20 matches, Gill has scored 949 runs, hitting four centuries at an average of 73.00.

Gill, who plays for Gujarat Titans in the IPL, has scored 404 runs in 7 innings at an average of 67.33 at the venue. He has scored three fifties and two hundreds at the venue, including a 129 off 60 balls against Mumbai Indians and a 94 not out off 51 balls against Lucknow Super Giants.

Gill’s prowess at the Modi Stadium is not limited to the IPL. He also scored his maiden T20I hundred at this ground earlier this year, when he hit 126 not out off 59 balls against New Zealand. He also scored a Test century at this venue during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 in March, when he made 128 against Australia. Gill has shown that he can adapt to any format and any conditions at the Ahmedabad Stadium, and has a knack of scoring big runs when it matters the most.

The young sensation has been in good form in the World Cup as well. Despite missing two matches due to dengue, he has amassed 346 runs in eight innings at an average of 49.42, which includes four fifties. His recent half-century knock came against in the crucial semi-final against New Zealand where he scored an unbeaten 80.

While Australia will be vary of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli threat. They will have to find a way to stop Gill from unleashing at his favourite venue. The young opener has the potential to single-handedly take the game away from the opposition, and he will be eager to do so in the all-important World Cup final.
