Former South Africa batter Herschelle Gibbs has delivered his verdict on which is the bigger T20 league in the world. The ex-Proteas batter picks IPL to be better than the Big Bash League (BBL). He elaborates on his choice, throwing light on the crucial balance between bat and ball factor.
Gibbs picks IPL over BBL as bigger T20 league
“Quality of a league is determined with the balance between bat and ball. You always want to have a contest between bat and ball. Opinions will keep going around. The IPL is the biggest but the Big Bash league has more competition between bat and ball,” Gibbs tells Sports LaunchPad.
Gibbs in IPL and BBL
In 26 IPL games, Gibbs has scored 886 runs. He was a part of the Deccan Chargers side that lifted the trophy in 2009. In the BBL, the Proteas batter has scored 488 runs in 16 innins while playing for the Perth Scorchers.
Gibbs picks Kohli ahead of ABD
Gibbs picked Virat Kohli over his former teammate AB de Villiers. Here’s why.
“He is a genius when it comes to batting. His hunger for runs and his desire to… especially in One-Day games when they chase, that is where you see the difference between him and AB (De Villiers),” Herschelle Gibbs told SportsLaunchpad founder Saurav Yaduvanshi on his Facebook page.
“AB scored a lot of his hundred batting first, not batting second. That is where Virat is absolute phenomenon. His record is second to none,” said Herschelle Gibbs, who was also one of the best chasers in cricket. His stunning 175 off 111 deliveries against Australia is still one of the best innings ever.
