Not a happy return for Shreyas Iyer! Star batter’s T20I return lasts 7 balls

Shreyas Iyer will have a return to forget. The ace middle-order batter survived just 7 balls on his return to the India Cricket Team. Iyer who was rested for the first 3 matches of the IND vs AUS T20I series found himself at odds length when he squandered his crucial wicket as Aussie debutant Chris Green took a good catch.

Shreyas Iyer was given a rest for 3 matches after the end of the ODI World Cup. He then returned to the side as the vice-captain of the squad. In the IND vs AUS 4th T20I, Iyer replaced young southpaw Tilak Varma to occupy the Number 3 spot in the Indian batting order.

Yashasvi Jaiswal gave the Men in Blue an explosive start before departing. On came Shreyas Iyer as hopes were high on the World Cup star. But it was a rough start for the middle-order batter. He played 7 balls where he managed 8 runs before squandering his wicket in the deep.

After 3 consecutive 2 runs, Shreyas Iyer was desperate to hit either a four or a six. Apparently, thinking himself to be set against Tanveer Sangha, Shreyas Iyer wanted to go for a big hit.

Iyer’s eyes lighted up when he saw a tossed-up ball. Iyer went forward trying to connect the willow to the leather with all his might. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a big contact as the ball took the aerial route. The ball cleared the inside circle but landed safely into the hands of Aussie debutant Chris Green positioned at long-on.
