‘Not happening’: David Warner’s wife confirms No U-turn for her husband in IND vs AUS Tests

David Warner retired from international cricket earlier this year in July of 2024

The possibility of David Warner returning to the Australia Cricket Team for the Border Gavaskar Trophy is dead. David Warner’s wife Candice has confirmed that her husband won’t be making a retirement U-turn to play the coveted India vs Australia Test series. Previously, Warner claimed that he would be happy to come back and play if the team wanted him to do so.

Shutting down her husband’s comments, Candice Warner has claimed that David Warner won’t be making a comeback. She went on to explain that her husband is passionate about cricket and the idea of playing for Australia seems very appealing. But in hindsight, that is not going to happen.

It’s not happening claims Warner’s Wife

“He’s very passionate about playing for Australia and I think if George Bailey, the selector, or Andrew McDonald, the coach, picked up the phone and said ‘we need you’, he would jump at it. (But) It’s definitely not going to happen,” said Candice Warner to Fox Sports.

Her comments come after Warner claimed that he will be ready to play for the Australia Cricket Team again. With Steve Smith going down the order, there is a void in the opener’s spot. Warner was quick to chirp in, “I’m always available, (the Cricket Australia selectors) just got to pick up the phone,” Warner had told News Corp.

Having retired from International cricket in July of 2024, Warner now enjoys playing the T20 tournaments across the globe.

“I think if he genuinely didn’t think he was capable of doing it, he wouldn’t have said that but that’s not any disrespect to any of the openers or people (in the fray for selection). If he was to have gone down that path to play again, he would have had to have done it just like everyone else — play Sheffield Shield and everything like that. But it’s not happening. End of discussion,” Candice Warner concluded.
