The debut for the wicketkeeper-batter, Richa Ghosh, became way more memorable as she played a crucial role in India’s performance on day 2 of the IND W vs AUS W Test. She contributed with a significant half-century, scoring 52 runs off 104 balls, featuring seven boundaries.

“They always wanted their daughter to get a Test cap. Every parent wants that. A Test cap is a big thing. He couldn’t express himself. Him just being with me at this moment is a big thing for me,” added Richa.

After the key dismissals of Sneh Rana and Mandhana, the burden fell on Richa and Rodrigues, who stood firm. Richa’s innings were spectacular to watch and left the fans wanting for more including her father.

“Making a debut like this against a team like Australia is a huge thing. You have played really well today and I hope you give your best to make India win. We are very proud of you, the words can’t express how we feel right now” said Richa’s father.

In response to Australia’s total of 219, India reached 376/7 at the end of day 2. Smriti Mandhana contributed 74, Jemimah Rodrigues scored 73, and debutant Richa Ghosh made an impressive start with 52. However, after the loss of four quick wickets for just 14 runs, Deepti Sharma and Shikha Pandey’s partnership became crucial to regain control.

Their resilient partnership proved to be a turning point as it thwarted Australia’s attempt to gain an advantage. Despite Australia deploying eight different bowling options, only Ashleigh Gardner (4/100) managed to make a notable impact.
