India women’s cricket team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and her fellow compatriots head to play The Hundred as a practice for the Asian Games. Though Kaur has been hit with a 2-match ban following her wrongful behavior in the recently concluded series against Bangladesh, the destructive batter will face no problem in playing for franchise cricket.
Harmanpreet Kaur is set to take the field on 1st August for the opening game of The Hundred between Trent Rockets and Southern Brave. This essentially means that the Indian Women’s Cricket team is set to have no warmup matches ahead of the big tournament. As a result, only playing in The Hundred will be the practice that the Indian eves get.

Taking to social media, Harmanpreet Kaur posted, “Hi guys, this is Harmanpreet Kaur. Just arrived in Trent Bridge. We’ve a game on the 1st. Come and watch us. Thank you.”
Four players of the Indian women’s team, including captain Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, will be part of The Hundred 2023. Richa Ghosh and Jemimah Rodrigues too will be playing in this year’s competition.
While Harmanpreet Kaur will represent Trent Rockets, Smriti Mandhana will be turning up for Southern Brave. Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh will play for Northern Superchargers and London Spirit respectively.
No Warmup matches for Indian eves
Harmanpreet Kaur has been punished with a 2-match International ban which will see the Indian skipper missing 2 games in the upcoming Asian Games. Should India make it to the finals of the tournament, only then will Kaur get a chance to play for the country. India will kickstart their campaign by playing in the quarterfinals.
But it is not bad news in total. 4 players including the skipper will take part in The Hundred which will act as a big boost for these superstars. On the other hand, the absence of coach for the Indian women’s cricket team is a big concern ahead of the mega tournament. With Asian Games on the horizon, the Cricket Advisory Committee is yet to announce the head coach.

“CAC has already conducted one round of interviews and believes a fielding and bowling coach is necessary.” After meeting with World Cup staging state associations in New Delhi, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that procedure will take place soon to fill the spots.
As things stand, the bowling and the fielding coach are set to be announced and only after that, the head coach will be announced. Is it a bit too late ahead of the Asian Games? Who knows?
On the other hand, BCCI President Roger Binny and National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief VVS Laxman will be speaking with Harmanpreet Kaur to discuss her behavior in the field which led her to be slapped with a 2-match ban by the ICC.
“We will have our President Roger Binny and VVS Laxman speak to her (regarding the outburst). The ICC has already banned her and the time to appeal against the decision has already passed,” Shah told reporters.
