Not Vinay Kumar, BCCI interested in this World Cup winner for bowling coach

India Cricket Team: BCCI unwilling to adhere to Gautam Gambhir's choice in Vinay Kumar. Apex body wants to bring this World Cup winner as bowling coach

The support selection saga for the India Cricket Team continues. While Gautam Gambhir is keen on bringing on Vinay Kumar as the bowling coach, the BCCI is of a different option. The Apex cricketing body of India believes that bringing a World Cup winner like Zaheer Khan would be the perfect option.

After the selection of Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach, it was believed that Gambhir would be given a free hand in choosing his support staff. One of the first names to be on the list was Abhishek Nayar as the assistant coach. As for bowling, it was believed that Gambhir’s primary choice is Vinay Kumar.

No Vinay Kumar, then who?

Along with Rahul Dravid, his fellow support staff too bid goodbye to Team India. But recent reports claim that not Jonty Rhodes but T Dilip is set to be retained as the fielding coach. Gambhir is capable enough to be the batting coach, thus Abhishek Nayar would fit in as the assistant coach.

But the trouble remains regarding the choosing the bowling coach. Apart from Vinay Kumar, Lakshmipathy Balaji was the second name for the bowling coach role. But now reports claim that the BCCI wants to bring in former India speedster Zaheer Khan in the team

“BCCI discussing the names of Zaheer Khan and Lakshmipathy Balaji for the position of bowling coach. BCCI is not interested in the name of Vinay Kumar,” sources told ANI.

The BCCI believes that Zaheer would be a perfect choice for the Men in Blue. The current Indian setup has a good pacers unit. Most importantly, the next upcoming crop is filled with some seriously talented players like Mayank Yadav and others. And in such a scenario, Zaheer would be the best person to groom these youngsters effectively.
