What should have been a thunderous welcome at home, Australia’s World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins had to be content with only claps from media personnel at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) as they finally presented the trophy, a week after lifting it for a record 6th time. Mitchell Starc joined him for a press conference as they finally got some sort of reception. Most of the players are on a break or playing in the five-match IND vs AUS T20 series.
But despite the lukewarm response, Cummins is not complaining one bit. In fact, as usual the Aussie skipper is chuffed by the response he and his teammates have received since they came Down Under last week.
“It’s been amazing back here in Australia. I know it was a different timezone, but walking down the street everyone has been talking about the World Cup, everyone’s buzzing about it. There’s been no shortage of Aussie reception since we got back, it’s been a great week. Don’t think it was maybe the scenes you would have seen in Ahmedabad if India had got up, but it’s been pretty big,” Pat Cummins said.
The other Aussie players will reach Australia in the first week of December after playing the fifth and last T20I against India. After the players’ arrival, Cricket Australia (CA) are planning to celebrate Australia’s record- extending sixth World Cup title.
During the past instances when Australia’s 1999 WC team won the trophy, Steve Waugh & Co were given lavish ticker tape parades. Even the 1989 Ashes team members and the 1995 Test team win in the West Indies Aussie squad were given public parades.

It is still not decided whether this time also CA will give a public parade Pat Cummins & Co. Official information is yet to be out about the way CA is planning to celebrate Australia’s sixth WC win. This win is all the more special considering it came against all odds. Australia came from being 0-2 down and went on to win nine consecutive games to beat pre-tournament favorites India.
