South Africa Cricket Team has announced their 15-member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup. No Temba Bavuma as Aiden Markram will lead the charge for the Proteas. There have been two new additions in the likes of Ryan Rickelton and Ottniel Baartman who have ace performers in SA20.
No Bavuma, QDK & Nortje get chance
Temba Bavuma doesn’t get a chance to lead South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup. Instead for the first time, Aiden Markram will be leading the charge after being named as the captain of his side. Interestingly, Quinton de Kock has been included into the squad along with Anrich Nortje.
Nortje is no longer in the central contract list as is Quinton de Kock. The latter retired from ODIs but was convinced by the board to think of retiring after T20 World Cup.
Proteas bank on 2 uncapped stars
Ryan Rickelton and Ottniel Baartman are the two uncapped stars who have made it to the squad. This is mainly owing to their brilliant performances in SA20. Rickelton hogged the headlines after amassing 530 runs and becoming the top scorer of SA20. On the other hand, Baartman bowled brilliantly, scalping 18 wickets in just 8 games.
South Africa squad: Aiden Markram (c), Ottniel Baartman, Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Bjorn Fortuin, Reeza Hendricks, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, David Miller, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tabraiz Shamsi, Tristan Stubbs.
Travelling reserves: Nandre Burger and Lungi Ngidi.
