ICC T20 World Cup: No chance for Rinku Singh? Where will Rinku Singh bat for Team India in ICC T20 World Cup?

The ICC T20 World Cup is less than 2 months away. And there continues to be a plethora of selection headaches for the Indian Team. One such includes the batting position of Rinku Singh. The destructive finisher is yet to light up IPL 2024, but has impressed his fans with some blistering cameos.

Rinku Singh had a wonderful IPL 2023 stint. His progress was well looked and he got implemented into India’s T20I squad. Following which he even got his chance to feature for India in ODIs. While he played as the designated finisher for India in the previous series, that however might not be the case in the ICC T20 World Cup.

No Place for Rinku?

Rinku Singh, despite his destructive capabilities might not find a spot in the team. He has fared well for the Men in Blue in the recent past. He has played a total of 15 T20I games for India with 356 runs in 11 innings and 2 fifties.

But it might not be just enough. Team India plans on fielding their best playing XI in the T20 World Cup. This means quite a few seniors getting in the team which will eventually see Rinku missing out on his spot.

Back in the games, India didn’t have the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Even Hardik wasn’t available post the ODI World Cup. This meant, Rinku slotted well in his spot as the designated finisher in the team.

How is India’s Middle order is shaping up?

Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli form India’s top order. Suryakumar Yadav, the World Number 1 T20I batter will occupy his usual slot at number 4. Hardik Pandya returns as India’s best all-rounder at number 5. The next spot will be occupied by the keeper. While the 7th spot goes to another star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

This essentially means there is no spot for Rinku Singh. He can only get a chance if either one from the above his benched or rested. India will traditionally go with 4 bowlers, hence there isn’t a chance for Rinku to bat at 7 while Jadeja will bat at 8.
