No special treatment for Pakistan Cricket Team in World Cup 2023, says MEA

The World Cup 2023 kicks off in Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on October 5 with a match between 2019 champions England and New Zealand, and it ends there on November 19 with the title match.

The Pakistan cricket team would be treated the same as every other team competing in the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023, India declared on Friday.

The competition begins on October 5 in India.

“The Pakistan cricket team will be treated just like the cricket team of any other country participating in the ICC World Cup,” said Arindam Bagchi, a spokesperson for the External Affairs Ministry.

He stated that instead of asking Pakistan about its need for improved security for its squad, inquiries should be directed at the organizers or the security agency.

“Of course, we would hope that not just they, but also all other participating teams, would receive all essential security,” he said.

When asked about reports that Pakistani foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that Islamabad does not mix sports with politics and that is why it decided to send the team to the tournament and defeat India in India, Bagchi responded, “I hope that there is a good match and I hope this is not war as it seems to be made out to.”

The eagerly anticipated India vs Pakistan matchup would take place in Ahmedabad on October 14.

India vs Pakistan in World Cup 2023

The ICC put a stop to the drama and controversy by announcing the rescheduled match schedule for the ICC World Cup 2023 earlier this week. The much-anticipated India vs Pakistan game has been moved up to October 14 from its original October 15 date. The October 15th-starting Hindu festival of Navaratri has been a major factor in the development.

The India vs Pakistan game was moved to the day before due to mounting safety concerns, although the venue remained the same. Because of the change in one game, other games had to be rescheduled and altered to fit the calendar.

The World Cup 2023 kicks off in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on October 5 with a match between 2019 champions England and New Zealand, and it ends there on November 19 with the title match.
