No Shubman Gill vs Australia! Ishan Kishan returns, Know why

Shubman Gill's wait to make World Cup debut continues as the 24-year-old has failed to recover from dengue. Kishan makes his WC debut

India were dealt with a major blow as Shubman Gill is not playing the team’s first WC match against Australia due to suffering from dengue. Till the last minute, head coach Rahul Dravid told the media that the India opener is recovering well from dengue and that a call on his fitness will taken on the match eve. However, due to the team’s disappointment, the 24-year-old has not recovered from Dengue. In his absence, Ishan Kishan will partner with Rohit Sharma at the top.

Kishan has impressed in 2023, batting at various positions from number 1 to middle order. However, the role he has impressed the most is in the opening. The southpaw also has a double hundred in the opening role against Bangladesh. Kishan will yet again open the innings against Australia in the absence of his best mate Gill.

Meanwhile, talk about latching on the opportunities yet again it is Kishan who has managed to get into the playing XI. Often considered as the backup opener to Rohit Sharma and Gill, Kishan has limited opportunity. However, in those chances, the wicketkeeper batter has managed to impress the selectors. Yet again, Kishan will play and make his WC debut.
