After days of anticipation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) has revealed the squad for the Rest of India (ROI) team for the Irani Cup clash against Mumbai. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who recently captained the India C team in the Duleep Trophy, will lead the ROI, with Abhimanyu Easwaran as his deputy.
No place for Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan in
In the battle of wicket-keepers, Ishan Kishan has pipped Sanju Samson. Both the glovesmen scored scintillating centuries in the recent Duleep Trophy but Kishan has been selected. Apart from this, the squad also has Dhruv Jurel, who is part of the Indian Test team. However, if he fails to get a chance in the second Test against Bangladesh, he will travel to Lucknow for the Irani Cup clash.
Similar to Jurel, Yash Dayal is also selected for the Irani Cup clash. In case Rohit Sharma doesn’t hand Dayal his Test debut cap, Dayal will be part of the ROI team. The other batting department includes the likes of Sai Sudharsan, Ricky Bhui, Shashwat Rawat and Devdutt Padikkal, who hammered 3 consecutive fifties in the Duleep Trophy 2024.
No Arshdeep, Kaverappa or Harshit
The pace bowling department sees a welcome return of Prasidh Krishna, who returned to Duleep Trophy after a lengthy lay-off due to his injury. Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed are the two other pace bowlers. However, the squad sees no place for Arshdeep Singh, Vidhwath Kaverappa and Harshit Rana. Arshdeep Singh is all but likely to play the T20Is against Bangladesh. The troika of spinners includes Rahul Chahar, Saransh Jain and Manav Suthar, who all three shone in the Duleep Trophy.
