The India Cricket Team is currently on the hunt to find their new skipper. Rohit Sharma will get an extended period of break and thus won’t be a part of the India vs Sri Lanka ODI series. The next senior, Jasprit Bumrah is also likely to be rested. As a result, either of Hardik Pandya or KL Rahul will be appointed as the new ODI skipper for the series.
India tour Sri Lanka for a 3 match ODI and T20I series later in July. And with no Rohit Sharma for the ODI series, either of Hardik Pandya or KL Rahul will get the chance of leading the Men in Blue. After hectic playing schedule in IPL and the T20 World Cup, the senior players get their much needed break.
“Both are automatic choices in ODI set up and the three 50 over games against England before the Champions Trophy is good enough practice for them. For next few months, they both will prioritize Tests and India will play 10 of them between September to January,” a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Hardik Pandya or KL Rahul
It is believed that Hardik Pandya is in pole position to captain India in the ODIs. On the other hand, the chances for KL Rahul too cannot be discounted. In the previous series against the proteas it was Rahul who captained the side. And now that Rohit has retired from T20Is, it is believed that Hardik would be taking his place.
