New India head coach Gambhir has reportedly requested Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah to not skip the ODI series vs Sri Lanka

India cricket team’s new head coach Gautam Gambhir has reportedly asked the veteran trio of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah to play the ODI series against Sri Lanka. All three stars, who featured in India’s T20 World Cup squad, were to be rested for the upcoming series against the neighbouring country. However, Gambhir has other plans for the stars.

Will Kohli, Rohit & Bumrah play ODIs vs SL?

As per Indian Express, Gambhir has asked the stars to end their vacation and take part in the upcoming white-ball series. Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are currently out of the country and are reportedly yet to respond to Gambhir’s request.

The new head coach wants the trio of Kohli-Rohit-Bumrah to play against Sri Lanka as they will get a one-month break after the series before India take on Bangladesh in a home series from September 19.

While Kohli and Rohit have retired from T20Is, Bumrah expressed interest in continuing to play all three formats of the game. The series against Sri Lanka is scheduled to begin from August 2. In other news, all-rounder Hardik Pandya has reportedly informed the BCCI that he would like to skip the series owing to personal reasons. The squad for IND vs SL series is expected to be announced on June 16.
