India cricket team stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are all set to get nearly a month’s time off following the conclusion of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The duo will next be a part of India’s Champions Trophy squad as the make their comeback to ODIs after a long gap. While Kohli and Rohit have been in miserable form in the longest format of the game, they will be looking to rediscover their golden touch in the white-ball format and will be eyeing to add another trophy to their cabinet before bringing the curtains down on their career.
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli must play IND vs ENG ODIs
Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli gave domestic red-ball tournaments like the Duleep Trophy a miss despite being given a chance to participate. The result was pretty simple and devastating – miserable form that spanned across three series (Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia). The veteran duo shouldn’t repeat the same mistake when it comes to gearing up for Champions Trophy 2025. The IND vs ENG ODI series will be the final pit stop before CT 2025 and it gives the best chance for the duo to rediscover their form in the 50-over format.

Both Virat and Rohit have hardly played any ODIs this year and last featured in the series against Sri Lanka earlier in August. The seasoned duo turned their attention towards T20Is following the heartbreaking loss in the ODI World Cup final to Australia in 2023 and instead redeemed themselves by winning the T20 World Cup earlier this year. Kohli and Sharma brought the curtains down on their T20I career with the win and then turned their attention towards red-ball cricket.
Now, the time has come for both veterans to once again return to the ODI fold, this time with the sole purpose of lifting CT 2025. It is imperative that both Rohit and Kohli be best prepared for the tournament without leaving any stone unturned. Essentially, this would mean that the duo shouldn’t get any time off before CT 2025 and must play IND vs ENG ODIs. After all, both Kohli and Rohit have hardly put in any hard yards in the ongoing Test series against Australia. Instead, the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and others need a rest period instead.
The IND vs ENG ODI series will begin from February 6 onwards and will conclude 8 days before CT 2025. This means Ro-Ko will get nearly a months rest before the start of the series. Hence, there’s no reason for the duo to skip the series.
