Minutes after Team India took a 1-0 lead in the India vs Bangladesh Test series, the BCCI has announced the squad for the second Test in Kanpur. After putting on a good show in Chennai, the selectors have decided that no changes need to be made for the 16-member squad.
Jasprit Bumrah to play 2nd Test
It was expected that Jasprit Bumrah might be rested to manage his workload, but the world’s best pacer will travel with the team to Kanpur instead of giving him a short break. Although it’s expected that the pitch in Kanpur will assist the spinners, Team India will continue to persist with Yash Dayal as well. The left-arm pacer would hope that he makes his debut on September 27, but it’s yet to be seen what sort of surface will be rolled out for the 2nd Test.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma turned out to be the only non-performers from the India vs Bangladesh 1st. Naturally, their spot isn’t in danger, so no changes have been made to the batting lineup. KL Rahul was another play that people criticised but he was dismissed just once and scored more runs than Kohli and Rohit combined.
If the pitch indeed aids spinners, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are already present and can join forces with Jadeja and Ashwin. Hence, no changes needed to be made to the squad despite some good performances in the Duleep Trophy 2024.
