No place for Aaron Jones in USA-Nepal-Scotland ODI tri-series after choosing CPL over WCL-2

No place for Aaron Jones in USA-Nepal-Scotland ODI tri-series after choosing CPL over WCL-2

Jones is USA's second-highest scorer in ODIs after captain Monank Patel.

USA Cricket have decided to punish Aaron Jones. The cricketers who shined in the T20 World Cup 2024 had decided to play for the St. Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) instead of representing the USA in the World Cup League 2 (WCL-2). Due to his West Indian origin, Jones didn’t require an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from USA Cricket.

CPL money comes to bite Aaron Jones back

The 30-year-old was warned by board officials that there would be consequences if he missed the tri-series against the UAE and Namibia in September-October, but Jones paid no heed. Despite his absence, USA went on to win 7 of the 8 matches and found themselves in 2nd place on the WCL-2 points table.

Jones played just 6 matches in the CPL and got the opportunity to bat just thrice but that proved enough as the St. Lucia Kings won the final, with him scoring an unbeaten 48. With the tri-series against Nepal and Scotland approaching, USA Cricket feels like they don’t need Jones.

However, losing his spot in the ODI team won’t be the only repercussion. Jones failed miserably against Nepal, scoring just 23 runs in three matches. Having beaten Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 and made the Super 8, losing to Nepal that too 0-3 is a step backward. Now, Jones might not be blamed for it, but he could lose his place in the team because he decided to choose CPL over USA.
