No paywall for IPL 2024 Live Streaming on JioCinema, free for all plan to continue

After a record-breaking debut season, JioCinema will continue their free-for-all scheme for IPL 2024 LIVE Streaming.

After delivering nearly 500 million viewers, JioCinema will continue its “free for all” IPL 2024 LIVE Streaming. Jio was planning to introduce subscription fees for its platform. However, barring HBO and some selected content, all sports will remain free.

A whopping 44.9 crore viewers tuned in to watch IPL 2023 on JioCinema. It was a significant jump from the Disney+ Hotstar era when Indian Premier League was behind a paywall. GT vs CSK IPL final recorded 2.5 crore concurrent viewers, setting a new viewership record.

However, JioCinema’s approach worked wonders. The free-for-all model helped viewers to tune in without paying any subscription fee for the first time. Furthermore, regional commentary language and multiple camera angles for the first time also attracted a large number of viewers.

Latest stories from IPL 2024

Viacom18 which owns JioCinema paid a whopping Rs 23,758 Crore to secure IPL digital rights. And the expectation was that it would recoup that fee through a subscription model.

Instead, the free scheme has helped JioCinema attract advertisers even at a steep price in some cases. Viacom18 registered a whopping 141.7% to Rs 3,239 Crore increase in revenues thanks to IPL. And the same trend is likely to continue with IPL 2024 LIVE Streaming.

“Revenue growth of 141.7% was driven by Viacom18, as IPL on JioCinema delivered record advertising revenues. JioCinema’s advertising revenue was higher than TV as the platform attracted more than 13 times the number of advertisers on TV,” Viacom18 said in a press release last year.

JioCinema will also live stream WPL 2024 for free.
