No one is abusing: Sourav Ganguly’s reminder on Rohit Sharma replacing Virat Kohli as India Captain

I think everyone has forgotten that it was I who appointed Rohit Sharma as the captain of the Indian team,” said Sourav Ganguly.

Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly took the bold decision to remove Virat Kohli from the ODI captaincy and appoint Rohit Sharma for the same role.

There was also an explosive press interaction where Kohli claimed he was informed 90 minutes into the 2021–22 tour of South Africa that he’s being replaced as ODI captain too and flatly rejected the BCCI claim that the batting superstar was informed about the decision much before.

After Virat Kohli’s claims, former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly faced a lot of heat from the fans. Since then, Ganguly didn’t open up on the matter until recently, when India won the T20 World Cup.

Everyone criticized me: Sourav Ganguly

After the Men in Blue’s success in the tournament, Sourav Ganguly reminded that it was he who backed Rohit as captain, as he eventually brought an ICC trophy to India after 11 years. Ganguly also added that he was criticized back then for the move but now, no one remembers his decision.

When I handed Rohit Sharma the captaincy of the Indian team, everyone criticised me. Now that India has won the T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, everyone has stopped abusing me for it. In fact, I think everyone has forgotten that it was I who appointed him as the captain of the Indian team,” Ganguly told Bengali daily Aajkaal.
