First, the criticism over the schedule of the World Cup, then the chaos over venues, then the ticket scam, one after another BCCI is feeling the heat over hosting the showpiece event 2023. Just when they thought everything had fallen into place, the latest update over no opening ceremony for the World Cup on October 4 has made fans angry.
InsideSport earlier reported that BCCI had planned opening ceremony and even finalized stars such as Asha Bhosle, Ranveer Singh, Tamannah Bhatia, Shreya Ghoshal, Shankar Mahadevan, and Arijit Singh for the opening night. However, according to the latest reports by Dainik Jagran, there would not be any opening ceremony.
If the reports are anything to go by, then the BCCI will only have captains meet tomorrow, followed by a laser show. Rather than opening the ceremony, BCCI will have a closing ceremony on November 19 or a grand ceremony before the India vs Pakistan clash on October 14.

Fans not amused
Seeing the latest update from BCCI, netizens were left unimpressed by the chaotic mismanagement by BCCI. One of the users commented, “Yes, true. Not officially Bt Sunne me aa raha he ki, sirf laser show hoga, again not confirm and officially.” (Yes, true. It’s not official but heard that there will only be a laser show at the interval. Again, it’s not confirmed officially.)
Another one commented, “Bcci pagal ho gya hai inko ind vs pak match nahi world cup lagta hai. ridiculous disaster world cup loading tickets scam.” (BCCI has gone mad. They feel World Cup is only about IND vs PAK. It’s ridiculous disaster after world cup ticket scam.)
While another one commented, “Worst management of World Cup ever.”
World Cup Opening Ceremony cancelled
Ahead of the big day, preparations for the event are in full swing. The stage has been set up for the performance, with rehearsal taking place.
Before the grand opening, all 10 captains will arrive in Ahmedabad on Oct 3. But now with no opening ceremony, BCCI will only have captains meet. And instead of the World Cup opening ceremony before the opening match, it will take place a day in advance. With the matches starting at 2 PM IST, there won’t be enough time for such an event. Furthermore, fireworks and laser shows won’t be able to take place in daylight.
Apart from the fans, the top officials of the International Cricket Council (ICC) as well as BCCI will attend the event. BCCI and the ICC will invite top administrators of all cricket boards to the event.
