Talk about leaving a mark in the game. Lucknow Super Giants‘ Yash Thakur deflated Gujarat Titans with a sensational fifer. The 25-year old pacer broke GT’s backbone as LSG scripted a 33-run win over GT. In fact, LSG received a big blow as ace pacer Mayank Yadav got injured, but the other pacer came all guns blazing to snatch a brilliant win.
KL Rahul’s LSG needed a strong bowling performance to defend their 163 run score. Things turned worse when Gujarat Titans got off to a strong start. Adding more salt to the wounds was the injury of Mayank Yadav. The young pacer bowled just a single over before going off with a side strain.
Yash Thakur destroys GT with Fifer
But Yash Thakur was the surprise that GT didn’t expect. The 25-year old pacer broke through GT’s defense as the visitors were bowled out for 130 at the Ekana Stadium. Yash Thakur started off by bagging the wicket of the dangerman Shubman Gill. But he save his best spell till the last.
Towards the dying embers of the game, as GT needed to accelerate, Thakur unleashed his fury. He went on to dispatch Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad to complete a fine fifer. At the end of the game his figures read, 3.5 overs bowled, 1 maiden over (with 2 wickets), 30 runs conceded and 5 wickets taken.
“Unfortunately Mayank Yadav got injured, so KL Rahul bhai said it was my day and asked me to make the most of it,” Thakur said after the game. And he surely made the most of it. While Mayank is out injured, Yash stepped up to help his team clinch a historic win (LSG’s maiden win vs GT in IPL History).
