And DC’s new skipper Axar Patel won the toss for DC vs LSG, and had no hesitation in bowling first. In what looked like a balanced side, the management went with Faf du Plessis, Jake Fraser McGurk, Mitchell Starc and Tristan Stubbs as the overseas players; and a combo of three pacers and three spinners.
KL Rahul Out, Sameer Rizvi In
KL Rahul’s absence from the match was confirmed prior to the toss, and instead of the veteran batter, the think tank sprung a surprise and opted to go for inexperienced Sameer Rizvi, who was ousted from CSK before the auction. Another notable exclusion from DC was that of India pacer T Natarajan, who generally is an asset in the death overs.
At the toss, Axar Patel said, “We are going to bowl first. It’s the dew factor, we don’t want to take any risk, that’s why we are bowling first. I have played with Pant before, he knows me and I know him. We know our tricks. I have played a lot for the Capitals, we have a well balanced side.
Axar Patel Opts for Vipraj Nigam, Leaves Out T Natarajan
“There’s dew sometimes, not always. I have been with DC since three years, I have been with the leadership group. I need to work accordingly. Need to think like a leader. Faf du Plessis, Stubbs, Starc and Fraser-McGurk are our four overseas.
There was a debutant too in the XI, leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam, and it will be interesting to see how he fares. So far, the wrist-spinners have been quite good in the tournament, including the likes of Noor Ahmad and Vignesh Puthur, and Nigam could be in the list too.
