The first week is over. Last ball finishes, teams coming back from behind to win, and most scores in a T20 match—that’s all within 10 matches of the IPL 2024. However, the most important thing isn’t the results of one particular team but the form of the players. With the T20 World Cup 2024 starting just days after the end of the 17th season of the IPL, Indian cricket team fans are already thinking about the probable squad for the event.
Probable T20 World Cup 2024 squad (based on the first week of IPL 2024)
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson (wk), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Harpreet Brar, Harshit Rana, Deepak Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohit Sharma, T Natarajan.
Top Order
So far, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, and Abhishek Sharma have been the best top-order batters in the IPL 2024. Kohli currently holds the orange cap, has two fifties, averages 90, and is striking over 141. Rohit, although hasn’t scored big, has a strike rate of 168. Stylish left-handers Tilak and Abhishek have scored fifties and are striking at 167 and 226 respectively.
Middle-order
Riyan Parag, Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson, and Dinesh Karthik have impressed with their striking and match-finishing abilities. Dube, Parag, and Samson have all scored fifty, while Karthik has scored three consecutive matches. Parag is currently striking at over 171, Dube at 166, Samson at 147, and Karthik at 195.
All-rounders
Harpreet Brar and Deepak Chahar are the two main frontline options, but Dube, Abhishek, and Parag can also roll their arms over. Chahar and Brar have three wickets each at 16 and 14 strike rates, respectively. The CSK pace bowler is an excellent powerplay bowler, while the PBKS spinner is great in the middle overs, with his low economy of 3.85.
Bowlers
Four out-and-out bowlers have emerged so far. Yuzvendra Chahal is the main spinner, while Jasprit Bumrah, Mohit Sharma, and T Natarajan are the pace bowling options. Nothing needs to be said about Bumrah and his ability to bowl in every phase. Mohit is a great death bowler, while Natarajan provides the lefty option for the team.
