After being barred by the ICC from using the dove and olive symbol, Usman Khawaja has finally donned his dove and olive symbol. The southpaw did so during the Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers match in the Big Bash League (BBL) on Wednesday.
Cricket Australia (CA) had approved the symbol before the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan at the MCG. But Usman Khawaja’s submission was quashed by the ICC, and the southpaw didn’t use the symbol during the Test match.
However, since the ICC has no control over the franchise league (BBL) due to it being a domestic tournament, Usman is allowed to don the symbol.
Usman Khawaja decided to place the symbol on the backside of his bat. However, his support for humanitarian causes couldn’t last long.
In the very first over of the match, he broke his bat. Following that, he had to change his bat. As he continued to play on, the symbol was no longer visible, as Khawaja hadn’t thought so far ahead to place the symbol on his replacement bat.
