‘No easy games in IPL’: SRH coach Daniel Vettori attributes loss to RCB to openers’ failure

This was just RCB's 2nd win 9 games as they caused one of the biggest upsets of IPL 2024.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Thursday pulled off one of the upsets of the IPL 2024 when they beat Sunrisers Hyderabad convincingly at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. SRH coach Daniel Vettori after the match admitted that there are no easy matches in IPL.

RCB won the toss and chose to bowl in a game that was expected to be a breeze for SRH. RCB rode on Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar’s half centuries to post 206 runs on the board. SRH in reply could only score 171 runs.

‘RCB bowled exceptionally well’

Daniel Vettori after the game said SRH losing early wickets proved to be the turning point of the match.

Obviously a disappointing one after our performances in the last 4 games. Even though we lost, you could see we could’ve chased it down if we still had some wickets at the back end. Shahbaz showed, was able to score. Patty showed, was able to score. However, RCB bowled exceptionally well,” he said.

We were confident because of past performances. We probably let a few runs slide in the field but they was real confidence in the group. However, our big runs were set up by our openers and today they had an off day. That’s cricket, they are allowed to have those off days,” he added.

‘Much rather learn from wins’

Vettori joked that he would rather learn from wins than losses.

I’d much rather learn from a win. There’s plenty of learnings from today. We have been successful chasing totals, now we have to look at our way of chasing. Our job will be to remove ourselves from this game and understand that different conditions require different approaches,” Vettori said.
