While there were multiple reports that the BCCI & PCB were going to have a discussion over India’s participation at the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, at the ICC Annual Conference in Colombo, that wasn’t the case. As per a report in News18.com, the tournament was not a part of the discussion at all.
“It wasn’t on the agenda so it wasn’t brought up or discussed during the Annual General Meeting,” said an official who attended the AGM. A BCCI official, who was present at the ICC meeting for all four days, went on to say that the Champions Trophy 2025 is still a fair distance away, and that the apex cricket body would take care of everything.
“It isn’t a bilateral where two boards will hold discussions. No dialogue happened between us and PCB on the Champions Trophy. Since it wasn’t on any of the agendas, it wasn’t discussed during the AGM too. It is still time away and ICC will handle it,” said a top BCCI official.
Other Developments at the ICC Annual Meeting
One of the key issues that was discussed during the meeting was, the ‘delivery of the ICC T20 World Cup’ by the USA. “The ICC Board confirmed that there will be a review into the delivery of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. This will be overseen by three directors, Roger Twose, Lawson Naidoo and Imran Khwaja who will report back to the Board later in the year,” the global body said in a media statement.
The point of contention here remains, the alleged overshooting budgets for the USA leg of the tournament.
