Pakistan Cricket Team are yet to confirm their participation in the World Cup 2023 in India later this year. As is the case in all India vs Pakistan matters, Babar Azam and Co will need permission from the government to travel to India. The Men in Green last played in India in 2016, and a decision is expected on Thursday.

A 14-member committee will convene on Thursday to discuss Pakistan Cricket Team’s participation as per Rev Sportz. Despite India refusing to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023, there are unlikely to be any hiccups. PCB chief Zaka Ashraf in fact wrote to Pakistan Prime Minister last week seeking his approval.

The panel was formed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to decide on the matter. PCB Chief Zaka Ashraf will also attend the meeting, which will be headed by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari. The committee will send its recommendations to the PM who will make the final call on World Cup participation. The panel will also review Ahmedabad as the venue for the India vs Pakistan clash.

Incidentally, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah admitted that there could be more than a few changes to the World Cup 2023 schedule. However, Ahmedabad will host the game, albeit on October 14.

The 14-member committee, headed by FM Bilawal, comprises Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Minister of Inter-Provincial Coordination Ehsan-ur-Rehman Mazari, chiefs of the national security institutions, and foreign secretary.

India rejected PCB’s request to play the Asia Cup in Pakistan. The Pakistan Cricket Board thus had to shift to a hybrid model, with 9 games in Sri Lanka. Several former cricketers had pushed for PCB to hardball BCCI, but Zaka Ashraf and Co have opted for an alternative stance.
