The India Cricket Team squad announcement for the ICC T20 World Cup is imminent. Ahead of the mega announcement, reports claim that neither of Shubman Gill or Sanju Samson will make it to the 15-member squad. This is primarily owing to the presence of other relevant players in the team.
Both Gill and Samson have been performing well in IPL 2024 so far. Adding more to their stocks is both are the captains of their respective sides. Even so, the abundance of players fighting for a spot in the team makes the inclusion of the power duo unlikely.
No way home for Shubman Gill?
As per reports, India are expected to go out with Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jasiwal, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav as the top order batters. Shubman Gill‘s spot in the Indian team has come under the scanner ever since the emergence of Yashasvi Jaiswal. And now with just 15 members needed, it is nearly an impossible task for Gill to get accumulated in the squad, forget the Playing XI.
With the top order settled, Team India doesn’t need the requirement for a player of a similar dimension. Instead, the Men in Blue would be keen to go for specialist middle and lower order batters. This in turn, paves the way for Rinku Singh to get a chance in the tean.

Curtains for Sanju Samson?
Imagine – 4 fifties, 385 runs from 9 games. Captain of the team who is topping IPL 2024 Points Table by miles, yet not getting a chance in the Indian Team, that is Sanju Samson. As per reports, The Rajasthan Royals skipper is unlikely to make it to the 15-member India Squad for T20 World Cup.
Rishabh Pant is the frontrunner for the keeper’s spot. Interestingly, Samson was deemed to be the second choice keeper. But now, he is unlikely to make it to USA and Caribbeans. India needs specialist batters down the order. Surprisingly, over the years, Samson has been hits and misses. But in IPL 2024. he promoted himself at number 3 and has shone brightly.
But since, India no longer needs a top order batter, it could be curtains for Samson. The similar reason, why Shubman Gill will find it hard to make it to the T20 World Cup squad.
