The India Cricket Team is gearing up for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. But there is a huge selection dilemma for the coveted wicket keeper’s spot. RCB batter Dinesh Karthik has gone on to reveal that he is currently 8th in the list of keepers eyeing their spot in the team. Karthik also revealed in the banter about how Nasser Hussain hates him.
Though KL Rahul is the designated keeper in the team, it is Jitesh Sharma who is the leading contender to make it to the squad. Other probable candidates include the likes of Dhruv Jurel, Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant. As a result, Dinesh Karthik is way down the picking order.
“If you ask Nas to put an Indian Team. If there are 6 keepers, I will be 8th on the list,” said Dinesh Karthik on a Sky Sports podcast.
No Chance for Dinesh Karthik
Dinesh Karthik is playing his last IPL for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Though he has been good with the bat, there are no chances of him playing another game for Team India. In fact, the keeper-batter last featured for the Men in Blue back in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Amidst all the fun and banter with Nasser Hussain, Karthik claimed that he has no chance in the team.
India currently has 5-6 candidates eyeing to make it to the World Cup squad, especially in the keeper’s role. The pros and cons are equally stacked against every candidate. But it is Jitesh Sharma who is topping the charts, despite having a silent IPL 2024. Samson has been brilliant with the bat but he is batting at the top order.
Dhruv Jurel is yet to play a T20I match for India. KL Rahul after his injury hasn’t kept much. Rishabh Pant is also roaring back to form after making a comeback in IPL 2024. Amidst the high competition, there isn’t any chance for Karthik.
