No Champions Trophy in Pakistan? PCB chief claims ‘dates may shift’ amid security concerns

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi claimed that the dates for few matches of Champions Trophy 2025 might be changed

It looks like the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is yet to get the security arrangements in place for Champions Trophy 2025. Amid a raging debate over Pakistan hosting the tournament, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi has claimed that the dates for certain games might shift despite remaining adamant that Pakistan will host the entire tournament.

Will Pakistan be able to host Champions Trophy 2025?

God willing, the Champions Trophy will indeed take place in Pakistan. Match dates may shift, but the PCB is actively coordinating with security agencies,” said Naqvi while talking to the reporters in Lahore on Monday.

The PCB chairman further added that no stadium in Pakistan matched the international standards required. He said that the country was still setting up facilities and that it was behind the global benchmarks.

Renovating stadiums is a major task. Unlike stadiums worldwide, Pakistan’s facilities are not up to standard and are significantly behind global benchmarks,” he said.

The ICC is already considering the hybrid model for CT 2025 following India’s unwillingness to travel to Pakistan. The Men in Blue last traveled to Pakistan in 2008 for the Asia Cup post which geopolitical tensions forced India to refrain from traveling to the neighbouring nation.

India and Pakistan have only locked horns in ICC events and tournaments held at neutral venues. The Pakistan side recently traveled to India during the ODI World Cup 2023.
