The squad selection for the upcoming IND vs BAN Test series is a major headache for the BCCI Selection Committee. And the prime headache is choosing the right pace attack for the hosts. Jasprit Bumrah won’t be a part of the series as he gets an extended period of break. On the other hand, Mohammed Shami will the series as he recovers from his ankle injury. This in turn has presented a fine opportunity for both Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep to impress the board at home soil.
The most pertinent question remains – Who makes the cut? Without Bumrah and Shami, it will be Mohammed Siraj who will spearhead India’s pace attack. Arshdeep Singh is expected to partner Siraj. It will also be crucial for India to include the left arm pacer in their red ball setup after Arshdeep’s fine form in white ball cricket.
How can India’s pace attack shape up?
Another left-arm option for India lies in Khaleel Ahmed. But two pacers who are keen to make a huge lunge into the Indian squad are Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep.
Mukesh has already bowled twice in overseas conditions as have done in Indian home soil against England. Interestingly, Akash Deep too got his debut in Test cricket earlier this year in the IND vs ENG Test series.

Experience will be a key factor in the series. Save Mohammed Siraj none of the pacer have enough experience in their ranks. But things can work in favour for Mukesh Kumar. The slow pitch conditions in India can work work wonders for Mukesh who is a typical hit the deck hard bowler.
The uncertainty of uneven pace and bounce with a hint of wobble seam can greatly discombobulate the Bangladeshi batters. On the other hand, it remains to be seen if Akash Deep can even make the cut in the pecking order. Both the pacers will have a chance to prove their worth in the upcoming Duleep Trophy.
