No Bumrah & Jadeja, Varun Chakaravarthy on standby in Badrinath’s India Champions Trophy squad

S Badrinath left out Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja from his probable India squad for Champions Trophy 2025 while keeping Varun Chakaravarthy on standby

Former Indian cricketer S Badrinath picked his India squad for Champions Trophy 2025 and it had some notable exclusions. The former CSK star left out an injured Jasprit Bumrah from the side, understandably so as the pacer is set to miss the group stage matches due to a swelling on his back. However, he decided to leave out veteran Ravindra Jadeja from his side.

Badrinath decided to exclude all-rounder Jadeja from his probable India squad for champions Trophy 2025. Instead, he included Axar Patel and Washington Sundar as the spin bowling all-rounders in the side. He also included spinner Varun Chakaravarthy as a standby option to replace Kuldeep Yadav should the latter be ruled out of the tournament due to injury. The pace unit comprises of Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh and Mukesh Kumar.

The BCCI is expected to announce the squad for CT 2025 on January 19. While the teams were required to submit their provisional squads to the ICC by January 12, the board had sought an extension citing the commitments in the recently-concluded series against Australia (Border-Gavaskar Trophy). While Shami is expected to finally make his comeback after sitting on the sidelines since November 2023, Kuldeep is racing against time to recover from an injury he sustained last year in the series against New Zealand.
