India announced their squad for the ICC T20 World Cup. One of the major shocks from the squad announcement was the absence of ace finisher Rinku Singh. The destructive southpaw didn’t find his place in the 15-member squad. Instead he joins the likes of Shubman Gill as a travelling reserve. Now, former chief selector MSK Prasad has claimed that there aren’t any better finisher than the KKR player in the team.
Rinku’s snub from the 15-member squad of Team India wasn’t taken well by the Indian fans. Former cricketers and pundits too joined the bandwagon to criticise the decision of snubbing Rinku Singh.
No Better Finisher than Rinku Singh
MSK Prasad told RevSportz that in India currently, there aren’t any better finishers than Rinku Singh. But he defended the selector’s call given the pitches that would assist the spinners in USA and West Indies especially in these hot summers.
“It is summer and the pitches prefer spinners, so the selectors decided to bring in an extra spinner in the form of Axar Patel over Rinku Singh. There is logic in what they have done. If you look at the finishers, I sense there is no better finisher than Rinku Singh right now in India,” said MSK Prasad told RevSportz.
“He is the only finisher in India. SKY and Shivam Dube are all top order batters. At number 6, there is no one better than Rinku Singh, but the selectors thought they would go with an extra all-rounder bowling option rather than a just a batsman who can finish these game,” MSK Prasad added.

“It is a good side, it is a balanced side. It has got a good blend of fast bowlers and openers. Rinku and KL were very close to the selection. Shubman Gill has also been doing well in the international circuit. Unfortunately, this IPL season didn’t go much in his way,” he concluded.
